Trauma and distressing experiences happen to most people at some time in their lives. These experiences can affect us physically and mentally. At Singleton Family Support we offer programs that aim to be a safe place to start to understand our reactions to trauma and to find the strength, knowledge and tools to begin healing.
Programs are designed to offer insight into trauma through information about neurobiology and how our brain reacts to stress and abuse. Programs are facilitated by professionals trained to deliver safe, healing and reflective group experiences.
RMP is an 8 week Art as Therapy program for women who have experienced barriers to educational opportunities. The art space offers women ways to develop new skills, explore creativity and express emotions through the process of art making. The women are seen as artist and their art works are shared in an art exhibition at the end of the program. Facilitators guide the group to work towards safety, self-acceptance, creative expression, self reflection and connection.
Wrapped in Angels is a journey of resilience that explores what has sustained and nourished children and families when facing abuse, violence and trauma through the process of making an Angel Blanket. The symbols of family, friends, pets, places, and events are sewn onto fabric, a colourful representation of a safety net. The blanket is a tangible object to be wrapped in, to bring closer strengths, protection, connections and relationships. It can warm and comfort with its touch and it can hold special memories.
The Tree of Life program approach enables people to speak about their lives in ways that make them stronger. It involves people drawing their own ‘tree of life,’ where they have come from, their skills and knowledges, their hopes and dreams, as well as the special people in their lives. The Tree of Life enables people to speak about their lives in ways that is not retraumatising, but instead strengthens their relationships with their own history, their culture, and significant people in their lives.
Embracing Your True Self is a 6 week program for women to engage in creative activities and discussions to increase feeling of wellbeing and self-worth. Positive Psychology techniques are practiced in the group setting, these include mindfulness, gratitude and self-reflective activities.
